Knoxville, Tennessee – The Pet Pardons organization released an urgent bulletin Wednesday asking the public for their help in finding a home for Kasidy, a young pregnant female Labrador-Mix who will have her puppies removed by cesarian section and euthanized tomorrow at the Young-Williams Animal Shelter unless immediate action is taken to save her and her future newborns.
Kasidy’s unborn puppies are in critical danger of being put down after being forcibly delivered by cesarian section due to a bizarre and unnecessary policy that is being followed by staff at the Young-Williams Animal Shelter.
Even though rescues have stepped forward to take Kasidy into their care, the shelter will not allow her to be rescued and instead will engage in what could very easily be called a mass canine abortion of her puppies. Taken from Kasidy’s Pet Pardons profile, the following information has been collected.
This is sweet Kasidy, a pregnant Black Lab mix almost full term but if her pups are not born within 4 days of her being turned in to the shelter (Wednesday, the 7th is their last day) in Knoxville at YWAC they will be taken by C-section and euthanized on day 5 in spite of the fact that they are fully developed. Kasidy was found in Lake City/Clinton area by Connie Wray while wandering the streets, she took her to the shelter but was not told the fate of the puppies now she is told that policy will not allow anyone to help the pups. No individual, rescue or otherwise will be allowed to save the babies. Unknowing Kasidy greets everyone that passes her kennel begging for love and attention, if her babies are as sweet natured as their momma some very lucky people could have great additions to their families.
Members of the Pet Pardons community are given daily Facebook bulletins and updates, allowing them to share the stories of pets in need or even take direct action to adopt or donate money to save the life of the pet. The reasons for how these animals end up in shelters are as numerous as the reasons why there are so many dedicated volunteers working hard every day to save innocent lives.
The Pet Pardons Facebook application has been responsible for the successful adoption of over 10,000 pets since its launch in December of 2010 and has amassed over 370,000 followers on Facebook who are ready to help advocate for an animal in need at a moment’s notice.
Pet Pardons allows its members to help pets by clicking the “Advocate” button on each pet’s profile, which places the pet’s bulletin on the user’s wall, allowing others to see the pet and advocate for it. As the number of shares increases, so do the chances of the pet being viewed by someone who can help or adopt.
Kasidy needs your help in urging the staff at the Young-Williams Animal Shelter to change their needless kill policy and the practice of forced delivery abortions on full term and adoptable babies. Without a large public outcry, and a show of support for Kasidy and her babies this policy will not change and the unthinkable will happen. I am so glad there are organizations like you out there, my husband volunteers for a cat rescue in Boston Ma, it is so hard. I don’t understand why it is inhumane to execute a person (a piece of crap person ), but there is no problem killing innocent animals, simply because there are too many. If people would spay and neuter their pets rather than be concerned about the pet “losing their dignity” then this would never be a problem. The anger here is completely misdirected. The shelters in America are working to help with the overpopulation problem. It is not their fault that American will not take care of their pets and at that point, euthanasia is the only option for population control. Consider also that for each of these puppies born, that takes away homes for dogs that are also being put down. One way or the other, several dogs will die. The benefit of taking the puppies before they are even born leaves room for adult dogs to get homes. Consider how much time and money goes in to raising a litter of lab mix puppies (usually there is 8-10 puppies) and how many pets are being euthanized due to space. Also, the mothers health is in question since no one knows what bred her or what other complications she could face as she caries these puppies to term. Many dogs that are deposited at the shelter are in poor healh and full of parasites. To abort the pregnancy and allow the mother to use all her nutrients is an act of kindness to the mother as well. The puppies are not being born then killed, the would never be born. Also keep in mind that puppies born to an unhealthy bitch can have many many health problems that could even result in death.
Personally, I wish all children had to visit their local shelters during the elementary, middle and high school years and I think we might have less of a problem. I won’t even get started on “breeders.”
As for the “we should close all shelters.” I’ve seen that too. Lots of stray dogs and cats running around and starving until they are hit by a car, shot or killed by other dogs, coyotes, etc. Yeah, I think a single painless injection is a lot better!
If you want to help: support your shelters, volunteer, foster pets, donate, etc. Words are just that, actions help far more.
As seen with my own eyes: “I am bringing my cat/dog to the shelter because I am moving and I don’t want to take the pet”, ” I am bringing in this litter of kittens/puppies because I can’t find homes for them and I can’t keep them.” These are common reasons people surender pets. It’s insane, but it is true. And yes, people suck

Well of course neutering and spaying is the way to go—but I think you might be a tad misinformed—those puppies ARE born, by C-Section. I completely agree with you that there should be control of dog and cat populations, but when something like this happens (by the way you don’t know if this was breeding or just an accident), you’re saying we should not take those puppies and give them to homes who will care for them, but we should kill them immediately? Would you do that with a person? Say a mother in a third world country is pregnant and it is well known that she will not be able to support her offspring…would you give that baby to a family who can care for it? Or would you commit infanticide as soon as he/she sees the light of day, in the name of population control? And yes, humans are extremely overpopulated, to a point where many mothers can’t even feed their children. Something tells me however, that you wouldn’t kill that baby, and you would put it in the right hands, if you were in that situation (unless you would commit infanticide, in which case I’m in the wrong). And of course euthanization is much better than starving to death/getting eaten/getting hit by a car, but as you probably know, lethal injection isn’t the only form of “population control”; there are other things such as gas chambers (a practice also used in concentration camps during the holocaust.) You also don’t know the health status of this mom, so you can’t say these puppies might be birthed by “an unhealthy bitch”, and then make an argument about it. I also agree with you that closing all shelters is an absurd statement, but I don’t think its out of line to say that most, if not all, shelters should become no kill, or at the very least extremely low kill. I’m sure that at some point American dog breeding can be at least decently controlled, to a level where not killing new born puppies is a possibility.

The puppies are not “born” by C-section. The uterus is removed intact and the puppies are never removed, never having taken their first breath. For those of you so vocal about how cruel, how moronic, how horrible this Animal Center and it’s doctors and employees are, you really need to keep your opinions to yourself unless you have actually worked in a center such as Young-Williams. Do you know how many animals are taken in there every week? Do you know how many are critically ill when received? Do you know how many are adopted out (after spay/neuter, shots, de-worming, flea and heartworm prevention, nail trim, ear cleaning, etc.)? Do you have any idea how much it costs the center just to perform one spay or neuter? Do you know how much it costs to feed all the animals in their care daily? Do you know how much it costs to provide the needed medications to those that come in ill or become ill while there? (yes, they do treat illnesses, do not “kill” animals because they get kennel cough or other illnesses). Take a little time and volunteer at your local animal shelter or better yet, go work at one. It doesn’t make euthanasia less painful but it does provide a better understanding. Rather than opening you mouths to slander, perhaps you could open your wallet to help, your heart to adopt, and your time to help

I might ask that you take a little time too, and stop being so indignant and self righteous and assume that you’re the only one out there really working with animals. The response from Young-Williams towards those concerned has been vicious, nasty and outright hostile which is always the first sign that something is being hidden. People cared enough to speak out, people cared enough to get engaged and people cared enough to pick up their phones and investigate – all acts of heroism and bravery in my books. So while you stand there pointing you finger at people, look at your hand and the three fingers pointing back at you and ask yourself why you need to harass people who were only doing what they thought best.

In response to your attack on me, I certainly am not self-righteous and learned many years ago not to assume anything. I too am one who took a stand, cared enough to speak out and get engaged, doing what I thought was best. Yes you are right, but still not an excuse for killing a living creature & yes they may be overpopulated, but shelters should give more time or wait for a rescue from still in state or out of state! Ok there are just too many children being born what should we do euthanize them too. Think about it taking a life isn’t the solution for the problems we have with the animals. And I totally agree that children, 9 & up perhaps DO need to know what happens to the cute puppies that are bred by back yard breeders & puppy mills & those accidentally simply because people are too lazy or too cheap or too ignorant to have their pets speutered. All these unwanted puppies are a direct result of people not speutering their pets when they get them. Don’t speuter your pets & this is what happens, unwanted innocent dogs & cats are killed, & often not by a humane method. They need to know that these animals have feelings just like them & must be treated with the respect of having them speutered. They need to see the dejected pets hunching in the corner of their cages, totally depressed. This is a valuable & necessary life lesson.

I just spoke to the shelter and was assured me that she was taken by a local rescue and they were not there. She said thank you for your concern and they have so many pets, and I said I understand, but that procedure was not needed. She assured me again that they were rescued.
More people should call and ask…See if the story changes.

I am doing everything I can to get the word out. I just contacted Mayor Brown’s office, though he is not in the office at this time, I did speak to his spokesperson Randy Kenner. Mr Kenner seems to be very bothered by this also, and has promised to speak to Mayor Brown about Kasidy, he also asked for the website, and has asked me to call him back later in the day at his phone number. There seems to be some confusion as to whether or not you have allowed a rescue group to take custody of Kasidy and her unborn puppies.
The idea to perform a C-section and euthanize her puppies as they are delivered has not set well with the Facebook and Pet Pardon population. As I am one of the population and no one seems to be able to answer me, I am asking you:
WHERE IS KASIDY AND HER PUPPIES?
An answer is expected before any “operation” takes place. I understand the Mayor of the city has been contacted and is not amused. He certainly won’t be amused if an answer is not forthcoming and I start making phone calls to complement my e-mails.

An Animal Shelter isn’t the same thing as a Humane Society. Animal Shelters are run by the counties in each state, and unfortunately most of them euthanize dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies on a large scale. Many are Rescue friendly, but then there are the ones who seem to be run by creatures on a power trip, or those who don’t have the nerve or humanity to change unreasonable policies.

I called and left a message saying that a Knox News reporter would be coming out to interview for this story and gain a better understanding of the local shelters attempts to find the pets they take in a home or partner with a rescue group.

So in human, what if this where their baby would they want it put to sleep 5 days after being taken C-section from them. I don’t think so. People wake up do what is right.

This make no sense to me. they are going to give this dog a surgery to take the pups which costs money and they kill them also costs money. She could give birth for free and puppies are more likely to get adopted. why do they have to kill them? are they going to kill the mother too? if so why bother with the surgery? this makes no sense!!! how does the people that work at this shelter sleep at night?????? they definitely do not need to be working around any animals!!! in order to work at a shelter, a person should be humane first!! and have some kind of passion for the helpless animals!! they are acting worse then the previous owners!!!!! same group in my book!! especially when rescue groups are wanting to take her!!!!!! i will deifnitely say a prayer for their souls…..

It looks like now Pet Shelters are preforming Abortions on dogs. Reminds me of the Concentration Camps in Poland and Germany. Anyone who could do this to Animals could learn to do it to people. Just a thought, but look up Fema Concentration Camps on your Computer. They are already built, in America, so who do you suppose they are for? Just Saying. We are becoming insensative to What is happening to these animals and I am just thinking we humans could be next.

I did not know anything about dogs boefre I got Meika, she kinda stumbled upon me, but since getting her I have done tons of research on dogs and now feel very educated.At least some of them are trying to do right Was this answer helpful?
