When You Drink A Coke This Is What Happens To Your Body In Just One Hour

What you’re about to read may (hopefully) cause you to put down that soda in your hand when you see just what happens to your body in just one hour after drinking a Coke.  Thanks to the Look Better Naked Blog for this.

The First 10 Minutes

Over 10 teaspoons of sugar enter your system, kept only in your stomach because of the added phosphoric acid which acts as an anti-nausient.  Without it, your body would most likely reject that much sugar (which is already 100% of your daily intake) and you’d be puking your guts out.

The First 20 Minutes

Your liver, responding to a huge insulin burst in your system, gets in on the action now as it begins turning this massive amount of sugar directly into … you guessed it … fat.

The First 40 Minutes

The precious caffeine you wanted so badly has now been fully absorbed into your system, causing your pupils to dilate, your blood pressure to go up, your pulse to quicken and starts kicking your liver in the gut to keep pumping more sugar into your system.

The First 45 Minutes

Ever wanted to know what shooting up heroin is like?  Congrats, the increased dopamine production from the pleasure-center of your brain just gave you a little taste of what it’s like to chase the dragon.  You may not realize it, but if you’re chugging down sodas on a regular basis, you very likely are addicted to soda just like a junkie.

The One Hour Mark

Hope you enjoyed the last 15 minutes of bliss, because it’s at this point where your body starts to get a handle on all the sugar in your system, and you begin to experience a sugar crash.  This can result in a sudden loss of energy, headache, lethargy and dizziness … which if you drank a Coke, was one of the things you were probably trying to avoid.

  10. So where did poor, confused Gloria Gilbere buy her titles? at 0:50 she states “if your Diabetic your Liver is bursting with insulin” & 1:50 “This is why we have such a increase of Diabetics because we are so addicted to these high sugar content” Gloria you seem to be seriously confused!

    1) Your Liver does not produce Insulin – 3x Islet cells contained in your Pancreas produce the insulin!
    2) Addiction to sugar does not make you become diabetic!

Diabetes is caused by a failure of these cells due usually to an autoimmune infection (Type1) or (Type2) when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level, or the body is unable to use the insulin that is produced known as insulin resistance.

Why is it that these self righteous people are given airtime and allowed to give miss information to the public? she may as well have said God made you diabetic!

She was correct in saying Diabetics need to be careful of the sugars but factually this article is seriosuly flawed!

    • I’m pretty sure her point was that the liver plays a role in converting sugar to fat and people who are trying to loose weight, manage or avoid diabetes should be aware of just how much sugar is in a single Coke (or any other sugar drink for that matter) She did say that a Coke a day won’t kill you– moderation is the key– although many people have trouble with that and that is the problem. She didn’t articulate the exact metabolic process that well, but her point about the excessive sugar intake was valid. Addiction to sugar can certainly play a role in diabetes– a type II diabetic is diabetic from precisely that– metabolic disruption (insulin resistance- which is a liver malfunction) caused by excess sugar in the diet, i.e. processed foods which contain horrific amounts of high fructose corn syrup. Almost every food on the grocery store shelf has that as an ingredient. People either aren’t told enough about the impact of diet on health, or when they are given information they accuse people of being self-righteous. Maybe people need to start listening a little more. Don’t kill the messenger because you don’t like the message. And by the way, it’s “you’re” not “your” in your first sentence. And it’s “misinformation” not “miss information”

      • Ha! Really? You had to go there didn’t you? You did alright with your response then lost it with the arrogant spelling attack where you proved them correct by being “self-righteous”. You should just “loose” that childish game. Argue the message not the messenger… err… something.

    • You are mis-quoting. It says “Your liver, responding to a huge insulin burst in your system.” Does not say the liver produces insulin.

          • Mamaw The liver has multiple functions, but its main function within the digestive system is to process the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine. Bile from the liver secreted into the small intestine also plays an important role in digesting fat. In addition, the liver is the body’s chemical “factory.” It takes the raw materials absorbed by the intestine and makes all the various chemicals the body needs to function. The liver also detoxifies potentially harmful chemicals. It breaks down and secretes many drugs. The pancreas secretes digestive enzymes into the duodenum, the first segment of the small intestine. These enzymes break down protein, fats, and carbohydrates. The pancreas also makes insulin, secreting it directly into the bloodstream. Insulin is the chief hormone for metabolizing sugar. Sometimes it’s best to keep your mouth shut and be thought the fool than to open it and remove all doubt

    • This woman is full of self-righteous horseshit, no doubtedly fueled by pathetic ignorance that just keeps coming around because she & others like her are feeling slighted- they don’t get the same CNS effect that others supposedly do. Well, I don’t either but who cares. Maybe if she stops piling all that other crap into her mouth she might feel better about herself and stop wishing SHE could have her coke everyday. I don’t know what else to say except that this is the biggest bunch of bullshit I’ve ever heard

    • This is obviously a bunch of crap started by a rival soft drink manufacture to try and squash Coke sales. All the soft drinks are the same they are all loaded with sugar . That said anything in moderation will not hurt you it’s only when people go nuts that it becomes a problem. Think about it one beer or glass of wine with your dinner is okay it’s when people drink a bottle of wine with dinner every night that things become an issue. Have a glass of pop once in awhile will not hurt you but make a steady diet of it and it will hurt you

  12. Good grief — this “info” has been making the rounds for years. My grandma drank at least 2 cokes a day for over 60 years — she also ate a balanced diet and exercised. She died last year at age 96.

  13. O M G Just enjoy what you like for God’s sake. Life is short. Your body is made to “work” as well as all of your other body parts. That is why we have a liver to deal with glucose levels! Have a Coke and a smile? And BTW, the “Dr.” looks to me like she enjoys everything/anything she wants and rarely misses a meal. Just sayin’

  14. Sorry, I suppose this could be true but I don’t believe it. I’m 67 and have been drinking soft drinks since I was old enough to hold a glass or bottle. And other than a small “gut” I’m NOT fat. And according to my doctor and yearly check ups I have no physical ailments. I don’t get jumpy. I can drink caffeine or non-caffeine drinks and notice no effect either way. Not sure where they get this information but I don’t believe it.

    • Actually it’s worse. The sweeteners used in diet drinks are terrible for you. Not only that but those who drink diet soda are more likely to be overweight or obese.
