Meet Odin the American Pit Bull Terrier – A Pet Pardons Emergency Pet of the Day

Covina, California – The Pet Pardons organization released an urgent bulletin Friday asking the public for their help in finding a home for Odin, a two-year-old male American Pit Bull Terrier who is currently under extreme duress and in unbearable pain from an injury that has left him blind and with a fractured cornea and protruding lens without treatment at the Covina shelter he is currently housed at.

Odin is in a desperate situation not of his own making, and because resources are extremely slim in his shelter his wounds go relatively unattended and his pain goes unmedicated while he sits in a cement cell waiting for the nightmare to end.  Odin’s eye is getting worse and he is barely able to open it at this point and the lens in his eye has started to protrude more with each passing day.  His silent suffering has been witnessed by thousands on the Pet Pardons application and it’s the goal of that community that his pain stops today.

Members of the Pet Pardons community are given daily Facebook bulletins and updates, allowing them to share the stories of pets in need or even take direct action to adopt or donate money to save the life of the pet. The reasons for how these animals end up in shelters are as numerous as the reasons why there are so many dedicated volunteers working hard every day to save innocent lives.

The Pet Pardons Facebook application has been responsible for the successful adoption of over 10,000 pets since its launch in December of 2010 and has amassed over 360,000 followers on Facebook who are ready to help advocate for an animal in need at a moment’s notice.

Pet Pardons allows its members to help pets by clicking the “Advocate” button on each pet’s profile, which places the pet’s bulletin on the user’s wall, allowing others to see the pet and advocate for it. As the number of shares increases, so do the chances of the pet being viewed by someone who can help or adopt.

Odin is obviously in a state that would make him unadoptable to most pet seekers, but he has his hopes high that someone with the right sized heart and the right shaped soul will come along and lift him out of the terrible circumstances he is in and get him the treatment and recovery that the needs.

In order to do so, a Chip In event has been created for him that will send 100% of the proceeds to the person who adopts him to go towards his medical bills and his recovery.  To help Odin, simple follow the link below and make a secure donation:

Pet Pardons educates the public about pet overpopulation, focusing on the importance of adoption and spay/neuter. By shining a light on the reality for shelter pets, people are becoming aware of the problem, and therefore, getting involved in the solution. As each amazing pet is featured, users are able to see their faces, connect with their stories, and advocate to save their lives.

Pet and animal advocacy can sometimes be a very emotional process.  Volunteers place animals into the Pet Pardons application in hopes that they will be adopted into loving homes, not so that the shelters will be targeted and harassed.  Please help the pets by not engaging in this type of behavior, as it hurts them far more than it helps them.

Odin currently has 1335 advocates on the Pet Pardons application, and could use a lot more, especially those who would be willing to supply transportation to a new forever home if needed.

If you are interested in learning more about Odin or you would like to adopt him, please click right here to go straight to his Pet Pardons profile.

  5. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get this animal some help. I don’t know how anyone with a conscience can just let him sit there in that cage just suffering. Can you at lease give him a blanket to lay on? What’s wrong with this world anyway to treat animals like this. This animal did not ask to be born, but he is here and I so hope someone with a big heart can help him out.

  7. I am going to use my Zumba and other fitness classes to get some money together. Within two months, at just two classes per week, my Zumba students donated $342.00 to our local humane society! I want to do more in less time for this poor baby, and I sure am going to try. I am also going to see if a local Zumbathon (charitable event) can be held to get funds for him. If we all work together, we can help him!

  8. I pray this sweet little guy finds a forever home. My heart goes out to all these beautiful and some not so beautiful (but precious just the same) animals. Dogs love us with every bit of their being, and when they are discarded like trash, the owner should have to live the way they make the pet…scared, hungry, missing someone they thought loved them. It is a true tragedy.

    • Oh Terri, I so agree with you on that one. If you truly love and care for your 4 legged baby, you will feel as if they are in fact a member of your family as if you gave birth to it yourself. They were put in our care for a reason and it is our responsibility to be humane with all living things. These are wonderful domestic pets and to do this to them is just beyond my thought process. Animals trust and love the one that sees to their every need and they so love you unconditionally no matter what you do to them. I morn each dog that I loose that has been a family member and if your heart is right, all would do that.

To literately love an animal you have owned and even drop it off at a kill shelter is also beyond my thought process. Why in the world would anyone decide to throw an animal that was loved at one time do this. There is no excuse for any of it. A shelter is the last place I would ever drop any animal off to no matter what. Maybe that is why I have way too many myself. Thank God for the sites on face book that allows us to post pictures and the pet or stray found for free adoptions.

My daughter for the first time after I told her of so many in shelters on death row has decided when they are ready to have another pet is going to check out the sites of animals that are on death row and try to adopt one. I push this now with all I know that is looking. I also encouraged a women the other day to post pictures of the strays someone is dropping off at her house to post pictures of them and find them a home that way. She had planned to take them to our God awful shelter hear and hon, they have 7 days in there before they are put on the kill list and mostly big dogs, pits and rottweilers are the ones put down first.

    • I agree Linda, can’t understand why someone don’t have room in their hearts for this guy. He does need donations for his vet care but in the meantime someone needs to step up to this guy and just adopt him.

  9. I have tears pouring out of my eyes. I am currently unemployed, but I feel in my heart that this doggy needs my love. I love these sweet souls, all this puppy needs is some medicine and a chance at a happy life. Why can’t a vet just donate some medicines for situations like this. I don’t understand this. If I could, =I would take him in a heartbeat and work with my vet to get this baby some meds. Who the heck did this terrible abuse to him anyway. I hope someone gives whoever it isthat did this what’s comin to them. UGH, so sick and broken hearted for him!

  12. This is the most horrific thing i’ve read in a long time. I can not IMAGINE the pain this poor dog is in…is there anyway we can chip in to at least get him some pain management while he waits to be saved? Ghandi said ” The greatness of a nation and it’s moral progress can be judged by how they treat their animals” If this is true, and i believe it is, we have truly sunk to a new low. I would be happy to chip in, but i really think we need to use some of this money to help him NOW, not later.

    • This money will be used to get him vet care, his adoption and his long term care. Please if you can, donations are desperately needed.

    • I just checked to see how much money has been raised for his eye surgery. If they have enough donated, would they not go ahead and do as we all requested? We want surgery done now, not after he has been placed. Even better, if anyone wants to adopt then let the donations go to the vet care and to whomever is trying to get Odin to them if they live far away. He will need after surgery care also.

  13. I live in Alabama but would love to adopt him if I am able. How do you get in contact with the shelter and does anyone know if they will help him get to Alabama

    Like

    • You can Amanda! Go to Pilot for Paws. You will have to register first to become a member but then you can request a transport where a pilot will usually fly him to the closest big city airport that is near you. Just Google Pilots for Paws and it should come up. They have their own website! Good luck and I hope you are able to adopt this handsome young dog.

    • There is a link above that will give you the information you need to adopt him. It says if you are interested in adopting him, click here! You can also go to his pet pardon page and find info. Please hurry. He’s in a lot of pain!

    • Amanda,

Go to the link above for ODin on pet pardons and click on his picture. There it will give you the information of who you need to contact. Sometimes only a reputable rescue will be able to pull him from the shelter, but as long as they have a foster in place and you are a good fit, they then will be able to pull him. Fill out the foster/adoption form and send it in and then get intouch with the rescue group. All of the info should be under his pic on the pet pardons link. He is also most likely sponsored and I know that there is a chip in started that will go towards his vet bills. Please keep trying and help save this sweet boy.

If I did not have my way tooooooo many 4 legged babies, I would grab him up. Good luck girl and God Bless. These type of breeds do make wonderful 4 legged family members and I want everyone to know this. I hope all continue to raise money for you to help pay his vet bill and I hope you are the one that pulls him out of that God awful place.

    • If you want to donate a small amount or hey even large amount, how do we do this???? How do we know for sure all the donations go directly to Odins Vet Care. How do we know this Shelter will see that any and all funds go to this Dog? I just feel if they have failed to do the humane thing by now at finding a vet with a heart, they would have done so. I question the ability of this Shelter for any and all things they let these shelter animals go through. For them to come into work each day and see any animal in pain and in need of vet care and not try to get the needed Vet Care, says what they are all about. Is there someone that we can trust to do the right thing with the donations to send it too? I would say the man that wrote this would be our best bet. Jeromie would be my pick.

      • Hi Deborah,

Great questions. I am in charge of the Chip In, and given my relationship with Pet Pardons, and my past history in running Chip In events and delivering funds to where they are needed to go, you can rest assured that the money being collected will go to where it is needed.

I do not generally like to host Chip In events, because it puts the host of them at risk of accusation or undue accusation, but on this case I had to do something.

Thanks for asking the tough questions, I really appreciate it when people do that because I think it is important to keep these types of issues on top of the water and visible.

        Thanks!

      • Jeromie, I saw amount so far raised. Can they not do the vet care RIGHT NOW instead of letting this poor thing continue to suffer? I hope donations continue to come in also because I am also hoping some of the funds can go to someone who is willing to foster and that person may live in Alabama close to where I live. Have someone in mind. So if we can get this baby from there to hear with no added cost and so forth, that would be something I need to know up front. If this is doable then want to learn what process must be done and how this baby can be transported to us. Yep, full of questions. I need to know stuff like this for future purposes also. Never have tried to see how transporting an animal from Florida, Texas or Miami or any other far away place can be done. Just seems like it would be very costly even to try and help save one of those precious animals.

        • I have offered to forward the money for the vet costs as soon as he is ready to go. So yes, the operation can happen at any time and it will be paid for.

    • Jeff,

Click on the above link to go to pet pardons and Odins information will be listed there under his picture. Most likely he will be only released to a reputable rescue, but they cannot pull him from the shelter until they have a foster in place. You will have to fill out a application for adoption/foster which you will also find on his profile on pet pardons. He is most likely sponsored, so that will take care of his adoption fees. Also, there is a chip-in that has started and all of the money wil go to his vet bill once released. Please help this sweet boy, take a chance on him, you won;t be sorry! Hope this helps.

  18. Pet Pardons is an awesome thing for all animals sentenced to death. I call it death row. I have seen so many on this site that was not spared and it constantly pains my heart for not feeling I have done enough. I feel this sweet baby deserves a chance at finding his forever home and finding out what it is to feel the love of a loving owner who will spoil him like no other.

If I could adopt another dog to save one just one, I would. I already have 4 shelter dogs that would have died and also have about 12 more of my own before them. Yes, have too many and nearly have all spayed and neutered. 7 to go.

Pet Pardons puts a face and story on my page and it makes others aware of that one click they could make. I even encourage people on my page to share on their own page and eventually, in hopes that someone will see this animal and save it. That is pet pardons goal and my goal. I have found this is the only way I can help many who would have died. If and when I have extra money to donate, I hope to do so.

You know what the exciting thing is? When I open my email and I have been notified that one of the dogs I advocated was pardoned or adopted. That is a wonderful feeling. What saddens me is when I don’t get notices for the others I clicked (ADVOCATE).

Thank you and God Bless what you guys try to do.

I think that you need to have a no kill shelter, ,Animals need to be treated with respect after all they will lay down thier life for you,, Take up donations, , car washes, every little bit will help. Still i wonder why one pill or pain med is not given to this poor animal, Three words for ya SHAME ,,, ON …. YOU.. If I could and could afford him I Wouldn’t think twice, but I CAN’T, So will someone please here this poor dog’s silent plea for help, take him home and give him love , lots of hugs and a loving family, that’s all he is asking?

  20. Seems to me that they could supply at least one pain pill daily for his pain. Very inhumane to let a precious creature suffer. I would bet whoever would adopt him that he would be FOREVER grateful. I have 7 animals. would love to take him but would be kicked out here if I adopt any more. Someone PLEASE have mercy on Odin!!!!! He is only 2 yrs old and has AlOT of life left to live.
